Global Village International- Bend Habitat for Humanity (Bend based)

We are actively recruiting for our next Global Village trip for 2011. The trip will include days of building alongside the Habitat family and a few days of nature excursions, rest and relaxation. The trip costs about $1500 per person plus airfare.We will hold Global Village informational meetings beginning soon until this trip is full. Green Empowerment (Portland based)

Info: Based in Portland Oregon, Green Empowerment is looking for people who have experience in international development and/or renewable energy/environmental sciences, such as engineers, technicians, health professionals, scientists, planners, and/or highly motivated students or recent graduates. The goal of their international volunteer placements are to develop international environmental leaders focused in rural development, regional planning, water issues, renewable energy, and watershed restoration.
Time Commitment:
- Ideal commitment is 6-12 months for students or fresh graduates
- For students, three month summer commitments are available
- Short term placements can be developed for seasoned professional engineers, health professionals, renewable energy technicians, or socially responsible citizens who work full-time and have limited vacation days
- Brief orientation in Green Empowerment’s Portland office
- May be asked to complete a full NGO Skills Training/Internship before International Placement -- always an option!

Nomad Charities is both a registered NGO in Kenya and a registered non-profit in the US that seeks to improve the quality of lives of adults and children who are homeless, exploited and orphaned by the devastation of the HIV/AIDS crisis in Kenya, through programs and services, so that they may realize their full potential in society. Some of Nomad's free programs and services include medical clinics, orphan feeding programs, free secondary education, running a 36-bed orphanage, environmental and clean water projects, organic farming and empowering women.

Vima Lupwa Homes
Bend, OR

Vima Lupwa Homes develops safe and stable family homes for children with the greatest need in impoverished areas of Sub-Saharan Africa. After working as a volunteer with children in Zambia in 2005, Malerie Pratt, a college student and native of Bend, Oregon, realized that something desperately needed to be done to help children. She met social worker Violet Membe who had always dreamed of starting a home for orphaned children. Malerie committed to help her with this dream.
The first VIMA LUPWA HOME, Lupwa meaning “family” in the Bemba language, opened on December 16th , 2006. The small home provides a safe, loving family atmosphere for up to 14 children
in which their basic needs are met, including proper nutritious meals, beds, clothing, education, health care and most importantly – love and nurturing by parents Violet Membe and her husband, Mwala.
